September Devotion

Next to prayer, study is an important practice that unites us with The Body of Christ and serves to renew our minds.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2 (ESV)

If this verse isn’t reason enough to begin a regular study program, try this exercise: First, think of a famous person, living or dead, you would love to meet face to face. It can be a famous scientist, musician, actor, world leader... just anyone with whom you’d love to sit and have a cup of coffee. Got it? Ok. Now, what if you were told that person would meet you in one week at the local coffee shop. What would you do?

If it were me, I’d go to the library (or the internet) and read everything I could possibly read about this person. I would then be equipped to ask questions and generally know this person on a more intimate level. I don't know... I might even have a list of questions or requests. Maybe I could get him to visit my house or autograph a prized possession of mine.

Well, as we learned in last month’s devotion on prayer, you do in fact have a standing invitation to meet with The Almighty Creator of the Universe. So it just makes sense to know as much as possible about Him so your meetings are increasingly more beneficial. Understand more intimately God's will for you in your life. Invite Him to visit your home and even take up residence. Ask Him to autograph His name on your most prized possession; your eternal soul.

By studying, not only are you learning more about God, you are actually equipping yourself to share His love and The Gospel of His Son, Jesus with others.

Establish a good study habit by linking your study time to another activity you do every day. For example, after you brush your teeth each day, (morning or evening) make this your time to study. “Toothbrush down; Bible up!”

So start today and learn as much as you can about Your LORD so your next meeting with Him is even greater than the last one you had.
