Prayer for Peace

Do you pray for peace in places like Syria, Pakistan, and North Korea? When you turn on the evening news, what do you see? Is there any sign of peace? Is there any evidence God has heard and is responding to your prayers?

It is at times like these we must recall the words of Jesus when He promised, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27 (ESV) Jesus is telling us in this passage there are two kinds of peace; a peace that the world gives and a peace that comes from Him. So what’s the difference?

The world gives peace through a stable economy, a strong military, leaders of integrity... But even in places which have this “world peace” there are those who are not at peace. They are wealthy, well fed, educated... but in their hearts, they are in constant fear.

By contrast, there are followers of Jesus Christ who are living through the most terrifying circumstances but they are at peace in their hearts. When ISIS marched those men in orange jumpsuits onto that beach in Libya, those men knew they were about to suffer a horrible death and yet, they were at peace. In the audio you can hear them calling on The Name of Jesus.

Continue to pray for peace and when you do, remember for whose peace you’re asking.

Come LORD Jesus.
